Veteran Australian wins marathon match
Arina Rodionova finally won a WTA Tour main draw match, her first win since the 2020 Australian Open, after she dispatched China’s Wang Xinyu in a marathon three sets.
The Russian-born Australian moved into the 2nd Round of the Nottingham Open after a stuttering start to register a 5-7 7-6(4) 6-4 triumph
But it took the 31-year two hours and 42 minutes for the victory in 20 degrees at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.
Rodionova’s off-court fame is for watching her friend Madison Brengle in the stands, and celebrating the American’s success in the stands with a mini bottle of wine. The pair often spend isolation periods together, with Brengle a fan of wine.
