American makes easy work of Romanian veteran in one-way battle
Frances Tiafoe breezed past veteran Romanian Marius Copil 6-3 6-2 in 67 minutes to reach the ATP Challenger final at Nottingham, where he will battle against fellow American Denis Kudla.
Tiafoe has improved his all round game but more impressively his belief. The Florida-based ace showed why he is a rising star by dismantling Copil with aplomb by mixing up his solid serve, powerful groundstrokes and deft touches to race away with the opening set in 31 minutes.
Copil, whose last Challenger final was four years ago in Slovakia, looked like a rabbit lost in the headlines against the confident shots reeling off his opponent’s racket.
The second set was like groundhog day for Copil, unable to deal with Tiafoe superiority in all departments that included his rapid speed around the grass court.
Tiafoe will surely be the favourite to arrive at next week’s Wimbledon Championships with the top prize at Nottingham, despite having only got as far as the 3rd Round at SW19 in 2018.🇷🇴 Marius Copil 🇺🇸 Frances Tiafoe
