Fansโ€™ favourite guns down Van Uytvanck in straight sets

Johanna Konta made it a hat-trick of Nottingham Open semi-finals following her Centre Court 6-3 7-6(6) triumph over no.8 seed Alison Van Uytvanck.

The British no.1 made her now customary quickfire start on grass by producing razor-sharp winners to reel off a comfortable early advantage.

Eastbourne-based Konta hit the cruise control button after dropping the opening game, breaking twice to speed into an impressive 5-1 lead.

Yet she suffered a blip by dropping her serve and was then pegged back 5-3 before she calmed her nerves to seal the set on her service game. The second set was a more tense and dramatic affair, with the Belgian fluffing chances to break Konta at 2-2 and 4-4.

But the Australian-born Brit stood her ground in the tie-break and took deep breaths to ensure she secured victory in 96 minutes, thumping down six aces during the clash to take her weekly tally to 29.

Konta, who reached the 2017 and 2018 finals but skipped the 2019 event, could make it hat-trick of finals if she can see off Nina Stojanovic. Serbiaโ€™s world no.87 followed up her shock success over former champion Donna Vekic of Croatia with a 6-2 6-4 win over Czech Republicโ€™s pin-up girl Tereza Martincova.

Konta claimed: โ€œI was really pleased with the way I was able to create opportunities and Iโ€™m just enjoying being out here, to gain that match fitness and get that tightness to help make the right decisions in matches.โ€
