Former top 10 Junior ace delivers KO blow to Boukova
Katie Boulter saw off no.6 seed Marie Boukova in straight sets to keep another British flag flying at the Nottingham Open.
The world no.262 played fearlessly in a gritty battle to clinch a remarkable yet deserved 6-4 6-3 victory.
Florida-based Czech Bouzkova, a runner-up at February’s Phillip Island Trophy in Australia, continued her impressive service games but slipped up when Boulter piled on the pressure to seal the opening set.
Relentless running around court by Boulter saw her chip away against her more experienced opponent, but she timed her tactics to perfection by snatch the all important points to reel off an impressive victory.
Boulter, who was climbing the top 100 just two years ago, hit the heights of world no.10 Junior Girl in March 2014.
If she can continue the momentum shown at the Nottingham Tennis Centre, then Boulter seems destined to be a hit on the WTA circuit as well as with the British supporters.
